Tshaya Mashabela Attorneys is a South African based boutique law firm rendering specialised services to private companies, state owned entities and small businesses, located both locally and internationally. With our offices located in Pretoria, Gauteng, we provide legal services in Intellectual Property (IP), Commercial, Corporate, Labour, Environmental, Entertainment and Civil Litigation Law. We ensure that creations of human intellect are legally protected and commercialised effectively.

Our Origins

Tumelo Mashabela, founded Tshaya Mashabela Attorneys during November 2015 and officially opened its offices on 01 April 2016. Our origins were motivated by a desire to be an agent for change; to transfer skills and build a successful and proudly black-owned and managed IP, Corporate and Commercial law Firm.

Our ultimate goal is to create a viable platform that will be a major contributor in addressing the current shortfall of IP practitioners in South Africa. We believe that participating in the field of IP will offer us an opportunity to address wider social inequalities and the economic imbalance that beset our society.

Corporate Social Investment and Collaboration

Tshaya Mashabela Attorneys is passionate about empowering the youth and ensuring that IP awareness is spread far and wide. To this end, Tshaya Mashabela Attorneys has collaborated with several institutions to offer training programmes that inform learners and innovators about IP. The Firm has collaborated with institutions such as the University of South Africa (UNISA), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), the East London Industrial Development Zone (IDZ), and the Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) to run IP awareness workshops.

In keeping with our desire to be an agent for change and transfer skills in IP, commercial and corporate law, Tshaya Mashabela Attorneys offers 6-month internships to UNISA final year LLB students. In addition, we offer 3-month internships to TUT paralegal diploma students who require the experience in order to obtain their diplomas. To date, we have trained two UNISA final year students and one TUT student. In addition, we offer bursaries to TUT paralegal diploma students. We have also trained aspiring IP and commercialisation professionals who are seconded to the Firm by institutions such as the Technology Innovation Agency.

Tshaya Mashabela Attorneys cares for the community, and as such, for years, the Firm has been assisting Mpho’s Dream Centre with various donations, including food parcels, blankets, and toys. Inspired by her daughter, Mpho, Selina Lebese founded Mpho’s Dream Centre, which opened its doors on 7 July 2014. Mpho’s Dream Centre caters for children with Autism, Cerebral Paresis, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome in and around Mamelodi, east of Pretoria. The children are not only cared for, they are educated to develop as a whole; enabling them to reach their full potential, physically, socially, emotionally and on cognitive levels.
