Role: General Attorney at an Associate Level
Location: Tshwane, Gauteng
Role Summary: We are seeking a talented and highly motivated General Attorney, at an Associate Level to join our boutique law firm specialising in Commercial, Corporate and Intellectual Property (IP) Law based in Tshwane, South Africa. The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and senior attorneys to provide expert legal advice and services to our diverse client base.
The Role of the General Attorney
The role will encompass the development of relationships with clients as they establish legal needs, provide counsel, assist them understand their legal options, and represent them in various platforms. Conduct research, prepare legal documents, and perform other related and necessary duties to ensure that clients receive the best and most cost-effective legal solutions.
The role includes, but not limited, the following:
Client Relations and Legal Counsel
- Engage with clients to comprehensively understand their legal needs and concerns, providing expert advice on intellectual property matters.
- Develop and implement strategic approaches to resolve cases favourably and cost-effectively for clients.
- Generate and present well-researched legal opinions to clients, highlighting potential outcomes and risks.
Case Management and Litigation Support
- Conduct thorough research and assist in gathering pertinent data and information to support case presentations during court proceedings.
- Actively participate in trial and hearing preparations, and attend legal proceedings t.
- Manage litigation cases, resolve legal disputes, and advocate for clients through negotiation, settlement, and court representation.
- Work closely with Advocates on various matters.
- Represent clients in magistrate proceedings, ensuring legal rights are upheld and navigating court processes effectively.
Legal Document Preparation and Administration
- Prepare accurate and timely legal documents, including contracts, opinions, and pleadings.
- Maintain, update, and track crucial legal documents for a diverse client base, ensuring accessibility for attorneys as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of various contracts, agreements, estate planning documents, and tax returns.
- Develop billing statement for invoicing purposes.
- Keeping and maintaining and adhering to diary for all of your matters
- Prepare reports to client as and when required as per service level agreement
Professional Development and Compliance
- Stay informed about current legislation, and write and publish articles.
- Develop ethical solutions to complex legal matters.
- Build and maintain trust-based relationships with clients.
Marketing and Business
- Participate in Firm-organised marketing events to enhance brand visibility.
- Author and publish opinion pieces relevant to the Firm’s services, positioning the Firm as a thought leader in IP corporate, labour and commercial laws.
- Present at events to position the Firm as a trustworthy service provider and enhance its brand reputation.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities (under the supervision of the MD) to strengthen the Firm’s sustainability.
File and Document Management
- Ensure proper maintenance and accessibility of all Firm-generated and operational documents
- Utilise various applications and computer programs to update, document, sort, and classify important legal correspondences and create presentations
- Generate comprehensive reports for client meetings
- Maintain up-to-date records on Firm’s Case Management system and other relevant databases.
Qualifications and Experience:
- LLB degree
- Admission to the High Court of South Africa as an Attorney.
- Current Certificate of Good Standing with the Legal Practice Council.
- At least 2 years of post-qualification experience.
- Experience in at least two of the following fields: Litigation; Labour Law; Debt Collection; Road Accident Fund; Environmental Law.
